Attentional bias for substance-related stimuli is one’s tendency to readily notice and attend to stimuli in the environment that are related to the person’s substance use.
Studies have concluded that drug-related attentional bias predicts post-treatment relapse among drug-abusers (Field et al., 2009).
However, there are ways to reduce its effects, the simplest of which is to avoid situations and stimuli that are related to substance use.
