A person can discuss their medications with the doctor recommending an MRI.

They may recommend that the individual temporarily stop using certain medications or that the MRI does not involve the use of contrast material.

People who are pregnant or breastfeeding also need to let a doctor and MRI technician know. A doctor can help determine if the potential benefit of the scan and contrast dye is worth the risk to the pregnancy.
